The UMKC Chapter of AAUP is back!
It is with great excitement that we would like to share with you the results of the elections that were held on Wednesday, June 24 for the interim officers of the recently reconstituted UMKC AAUP Chapter.
Interim President Anthony Shiu is an associate professor of English. His research focuses on critical race theory, cultural studies, and Asian American studies. As a product of public schools, he is invested in the relationship between scholarly research, academic freedom, and the public good.
Interim Vice-President and Treasurer Sirisha Naidu is an associate professor of Economics. Her research is centered on the intersection of environment, development and gender-related issues in the Global South. She believes that the academic mission of a public university is invaluable to the people of Kansas City; and full-time and contingent faculty, staff, facilities workers, and student workers are essential to the functioning of such a university.
Interim Secretary Matthew Edwards is an Associate Professor of Spanish and Affiliated Faculty of Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and Latinx and Latin American Studies. His current research looks toward contemporary constructions of disability to better understand the global circuits, networks and communities formed around contemporary decolonial struggle across the Americas. He is motivated by collective action, community building and mutual respect.
